I swear I've published this one here before, but I couldn't find it in the Blogger archive so here it is again. It's a thrill from my days of volcano obsession around the turn of the Millennium. The image is of Stromboli, a volcanic island near Sicily which has never stopped erupting for thousands of years. This is based on a real image from a Stromboli webcam which gave me loads of inspiring pictures until it was destroyed in an eruption in 2003. This image was particularly impressive because of the moon setting over the misty sea while lava fountained.
Acrylic with airbrush on illustration board, 17" x 12", December 2002.
