You might think this is Merrie Old England, but no, it was Vienna. And not Vienna, Austria either, but Vienna, Virginia, a densely packed area of commercial, office, and residential places. This faux-Anglo gable was a restaurant which featured, not surprisingly, meat and potatoes, and suds in a big glass. This is one of my favorite types of food and I dined there often. But somehow it lost its popularity and disappeared in 2008. This fakey but tasty place pretended to be a country inn when you were inside. The building sat empty on Vienna's main street until it was demolished and replaced by a dull commercial edifice a few years ago.
