If anyone is looking at this post, they may notice that I posted it in the evening around 6 PM. I promised myself I'd post every day, but the promise doesn't say when during the day. Last night I stumbled home from work, and after a delicious repast of Trader Joe's pot roast and vegetables, and a glass or two of Naked Mountain wine, I just, uh, lay down and dozed the evening away. And did not post. So here I am.
Does it matter? I'd like to produce some glamour girls for you, but now I'm too timid to do a whole body because I don't have any figure skills any more. Copying an existing art work by someone else does not count. I recently re-discovered a very nice digital art training site where I hope to learn something: the "2D Digital Art Guide." The stupid question that is keeping me from doing art is, if I am trying to learn something new, how can I make the finished works of art I need for shows and portfolio, because anything digital and figurative I do will suck until I learn how to do it really well like those 21-year-old dazzlers from China. Which will take years for me to do. I'm so frustrated about this. So c'mon whoever is looking at this (if anyone is) leave a comment, even if it is to tell me to shut up. And Tristan, please get help, don't give up.

I don't think your figure drawing is bad. I like your art, all of it. I also don't understand why you feel you need to draw like some 20-year-old from China. You don't. You have your own style and more experience than some 20-something does. Just because they have a fancy computer equipment to help them along doesn't mean they are better artists than you. Please don't let DeviantArt discourage you.
I very much enjoy your art, in your current style; I don't think you need to change your style to match the current fad...
I'm sorry I don't comment more often, but I was brought up in an earlier Internet age where responses were only appropriate if there was significant content in them, and I rarely have more to say than "ooh, pretty!".
Art, you are a good artist and while I hate digital, I can understand why you want to do it. At least to some degree. I myself am considering destroying much of my art since no one wants it and I have no room. So if I did digital I could keep making art no one wants and not have it take up any space. But like so many things with me, I will NEVER do digital "art"! You have a style, and talent and yet you want to make your stuff look "just like everyone else" who does the (in my oppinion) crappy, lifeless digital junk! Your choice of course, and I will refrain from commenting on ANY of the digital stuff since you already know what I think of it. Your REAL art is better! As for getting help, there is no help or hope, why I bother to breath is beyond me!
Cheesecake pin-up fantasy covers like the ones you linked to leave me pretty cold. They look like what they are: advertising. And we all see so much of that kind of thing every day.
Not that this should deter you from working on your figure drawing. I would love to see more illustrations from you like this. And since my favorite pictures by your are of stylized worlds and cities, I think its neat when they're inhabited by humans.
I think this picture hits the sweet spot, if your goal is to be an illustrator. It really does illustrate a story. The humans aren't just posing. They're caught up in their drama. The scene isn't just a set-piece. It's where they live, a real place you feel as though you could step into.
I think you Ayn Rand illustrations achieved the same thing.
(Gosh, there's one I really wanted to link that I can't find -- might've another Darkover -- with well dressed figures in the foreground in front of a railing which looked over a city like a balcony?)
I like the figure studies you've been posting, and if you want my feedback, I think they look better the less "posed" they are.
But I like the pictures by you that I linked to above much better than the pictures by the Chinese kid that you linked to in the post.
See? You do have fans! And while I think that you are reacting to the recent visit to the Parentals, you do good art. Folks do see your blog and are willing to tell you that you are a respectable and competent artist. Keep up the hard and thoughtful efforts that brings forth your great artwork.

I love digital it is my artform it is what I do . You have to know there are limitless possiblities and let your brain sore .
